NaturoMedica Welcomes Dr. Elisha Bokman

It is with great pleasure that we announce another addition to our NaturoMedica family - Dr. Elisha Bokman. Dr. Bokman received her training at Bastyr University where which she received her naturopathic doctorate degree. In addition to being a naturopathic physician, Dr. Bokman is also a licensed acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist. Elisha enjoys using blended medicine with the combination of Naturopathic, Chinese and conventional medicine in order to give her patients the best possible care. In addition, Elisha is certified as an IV specialist. She finds IV therapy to be effective for addressing nutrient deficiencies and treating a variety of medical conditions.

Elisha grew up in the sunny state of California and received her undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. After developing a medical condition that interfered with her planned career path, she began a lifelong pursuit of exploring different types of medicine and modalities used to heal people. While in college, and with a desire to heal her own personal ailments, Elisha ventured to South Africa where she was exposed to the practices of a local indigenous healer. This experience opened Elisha to an entirely different tradition of health and healing. Upon completion of college, Elisha moved to New York City in which she continued pursuing her interest and study of holistic medicine, which eventually led her to Bastyr University to become a naturopathic physician, Chinese herbalist and IV specialist.

Dr. Bokman is excited to expand NaturoMedica’s Chinese Medicine offerings. Some of the Chinese healing practices she uses with her patients are:

Acupuncture: Therapeutic use of very fine needles along a system of well mapped out points throughout the body to treat a wide variety of medical conditions and restore a balance on a deep level. Acupuncture is a great option for a myriad of health concerns including treating pain conditions, mood imbalances, digestive disorders and hormonal imbalances.

Chinese herbal medicine: The origins of herbal medicine in China can be traced back at least 5000 years, making it one of the oldest and most long-standing health care systems in the world. Chinese herbal medicines are primarily plant based which may be given in the form of teas, capsules, tablets or powders. Chinese herbal medicine uses a system of healing that can help to restore balance to the body and treat the underlying cause of disease.

Cupping: The use of glass cups at specific points on the body to create a suction like effect on the skin, which helps to break up adhesions in the tissues, bring increased circulation and promote healing to the treatment area. In Chinese medicine this is known as moving stagnation. Cupping is a wonderful tool for treating tension in the neck, shoulders and back and can be a great compliment to acupuncture treatments for a variety of health conditions.

Moxibustion: Also known as Moxa, this topical therapy uses the Chinese herb, Mugwort, to bring a therapeutic warming effect to the area that is being treated. Moxa can be administered in various ways and is a wonderful option for treating arthritis, digestive disorders as well as reproductive disorders.

Dr. Bokman believes that she can help patients to evoke their body’s innate healing ability through the various modalities she has to offer. She states, “I love to partner with patients in educating them about the many ways to achieve optimal health and support them in healing from various ailments or conditions”. Dr. Bokman is now accepting new patients at the NaturoMedica Clinic at 425-557-8900. She is excited to offer her acupuncture and Chinese medicine services to new and current patients. Dr. Elisha is joining current physicians at NaturoMedica including Dr. Rachelle Forsberg who also specializes in naturopathic and Chinese herbal medicine and IV therapies. Please stop in to meet and give Elisha a warm welcome to the NaturoMedica team. In addition, please remember we will be in our new clinic location mid-April in the Issaquah Highlands Grand Ridge Plaza at 1220 10th Avenue NE, Issaquah, WA 98029.
